Faceless Me

It’s not a perfect work of art, but this was a fun little submission I did for deviantART’s “Face Your Monsters Contest” the other day, and I figured it was worth a share
.
The smaller versions look worse than the full-size, so please check that out. When I heard the title of the contest, this was the first thing that popped into my mind (FACE your monsters…), but it’s quite a strange challenge to erase features of the face – because I know what a face looks like so well, especially my own. I think, beyond a couple of bad spots, if we DIDN’T know what the human face naturally looked like, this’d seem a lot less “fake”.
It was entertaining to do, though, and I hope if any of you are out doing something tonight, you have a good time

Digital Painting – Rome

I have, so far, only had two entries in this category, though I’m hoping to amp up that frequency quite a bit. Both pictures have been digital paintings inspired by and named after music, one for a song and one for an album, but that probably won’t always be the case. Probably
.
I’ve been working on the picture above for the last 2 days, and I’m rather happy with it. It all started when I came across Rome by Danger Mouse, which you can currently listen to in it’s entirety, as I did, on NPR. Just the idea behind it all was enough to start my creative interest, and once I started listening to it, I felt compelled to create something. So, I let it play and started painting. The first thing I envisioned was a huge sky… a beautiful smorgasbord of color that, like I was amazed by in Red Dead Redemption, very definitely looked like it was painted with broad strokes. It took shape from there, and I really like how it turned out.
I created this picture as a huge landscape format, so the small size I can show you here does not do it justice (even if I had larger pop-up images available, it still wouldn’t be 100%). I had originally planned on using Flickr for my digital work, but only the paid version allows full-size images, so if you’d like to see this work in it’s full detail, please check it out here:
From here on out I’ll include that link near the top, but I wanted to explain it first (don’t forget to zoom in all the way.. it’s a big picture, so if it fits on your screen, you’re not there yet
). If you do take a gander, feel free to check out the one other image I have uploaded so far… that is, if the names Fez, Max, and Kermit mean anything to you

Dim Turned Black
I’ve talked about art before, though rarely in a positive light. I have no real appreciation for art that can’t be easily defined or explained, and that makes this new blog series o’mine all the more ironic. On the chance that someone else can enjoy it, though, here is where I’m going to share things that I’ve drawn, even though I most likely think they’re all cheesy/ugly/artsy-fartsy crap – hence the title
.
Sparked by my interest to start painting digitally (thanks to Danny, certainly), and inspired by the beautiful song that I’ve been listening to for the past few days (posted below), I created this:

Discovered through its use in a movie trailer, I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve played Johann Johannsson’s “Sun’s Gone Dim” since looking it up the other day. The video is rather mad, but you don’t have to watch… just listen, as the above artwork is directly connected to it, both in definition and tone.
